Effective emails in the age of instant messaging
04-Jul

The world has been undeniably fast-paced since the boom of the information age. Despite the invention of instant messaging, emails are still an unerasable part of modern-day communication.

We know by experience that many of the emails we receive are being buried, unattended, into the deepest pits of our inboxes. We certainly don’t want that to happen to the emails that we send. The solution to that is writing effective emails.

1. The subject line is your email headline

When we’re browsing the social media or the news, we sure will stop and read when we see a headline that piques into our curiosity. The same goes for email subjects. Use this to grab your recipient’s attention by indicating directly what your email is about. Never beat around the bush when it comes to email subjects.

2. Clear and concise email body

Construct the body of your email in an organize and concise way. Be sure to include all the important details such as date, time and key message. If you need to tackle a few things in one email, using bullet points will help to make your email look a little less overwhelming.

3. Reflect your professionalism in your tone

Aside from the message itself, another thing that usually gets misunderstood in an email is the tone. Your choice of words and use of punctuation marks should be considered. Using words like ‘kindly’ or ‘please’ will take you a long way in keeping a pleasing email tone.

Before hitting the send button, be sure to give your email a round of visual scan to check the important details, spelling or tone.

An effective email prevents time wastage, directs the point to attention and most of all makes digital communication efficient. However, some things are better to be taken through personal communication, and that's what we will be discussing on our upcoming Pom-blogs.
